Huge Designs a New, More Personal Bio.com

October 11, 2011 - Brooklyn

Visitors to the official Biography (BIO™) Channel website, Bio.com, can now see what they have in common with celebrities and historical figures using the power of the social graph. HUGE engaged in strategy, visual design and interaction design for the new site, which is owned by A+E Networks Digital Media.

The new Bio.com lets users explore what they and their friends share with over 6,000 of the world's most famous people. Matching users’ Facebook profiles against BIO’s extensive database of information about public figures, users can find commonalities from birthdays, to hometowns, education, and more. Users can also explore ‘groups’ which organize famous people based on common traits.

The new Bio.com features more than 250 video biographies, including full episodes of the Emmy Award-winning series “Biography” as well as short video bios produced exclusively for Bio.com. The site also uses ‘shortlists’ to crowdsource public opinion on questions like “which past or present star would make the best teacher?” Other improvements include a new blog, updated photo galleries, and ‘celebrity connections’, which examine the links that stars have with one another.

In an A+E Networks news release, Dan Suratt, Executive Vice President, Digital Media and Business Development, said "The success of BIO through the years has demonstrated our fascination with famous people -- not just from understanding what makes them different from us, but what we share in common with them. Now, we've re-engineered Bio.com to leverage Facebook's social graph to highlight the personal connections that our visitors and their friends also share with those personalities of today and years past."

Mashable reported that Bio.com “offers an interactive experience that couples the brand’s expertise with social relevance. We find it to be smart, interesting and engaging."

HUGE previously worked with A+E Networks to redesign History.com in 2010.
